Many of the consulting projects we undertake involve defining the problem, analysing the requirements in detail, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending the most suitable solution. The projects can be concerned with a single person, a single department, several departments, or they may have company-wide implications. The importance of the projects to our clients can vary from being a desirable change or addition to existing procedures, to being critical to the success of their business or operations.

We use techniques that are appropriate to the scope and importance of the project (e.g., PRINCE). We can audit systems that have been built with various products.

We have the abilities and skills to understand our clients' requirements and to present these requirements in clear reports. These reports are used to agree the objectives of a project, its scope, and how it should achieve the objectives. The reports also form the basis of checking, on completion of each stage of the project, that the objectives have been met.

In many cases we may act as the client's consultant in dealing with other vendors and system providers. In these cases we may have produced a functional specification that then forms the basis of invitations to tender to various suppliers. We may then be involved in the evaluation of the tenders and the project management of the system implementation.

In all projects we act in a professional manner, treat any information given to us by our clients as strictly confidential, always act in our clients' best interests and take appropriate steps to assure the quality of any products we produce.

System Audits
The desktop database and spreadsheet products that are available today empower data users to develop their own applications without needing to compete for limited IT resources. This means that small applications can be quickly and easily developed by the users themselves. Often, however, the importance of these applications can grow, even to the extent that the applications become mission critical. When this happens, you need to be sure that what started as a small desktop application is robust enough, responsive enough, and reliable enough, to meet the needs of such crucial processes.

C S Consultants can carry out audits of systems written in many desktop database products. The outcome of our audit is a report that describes the current system, pointing out its strengths and weaknesses, and recommending any improvements that should be made. Armed with such a report, you can, if necessary, make changes to the system that will ensure its reliability and continued good service, or convert it to a platform more appropriate for the critical processes for which it is now used.
