Software Development

We develop bespoke software solutions for our clients using various tools, including:

We can develop software to your specification or to a specification that we have written in consultation with you.

Project Planning
After agreement of the specification a timetable for the development and implementation will be agreed. This will clearly detail who has responsibility for such things as:

  • making the computer hardware available;
  • installing any software packages and communications facilities, if required;
  • acceptance testing the developed software;
  • importing existing data into the new system from other computer systems;
  • preparing training materials, user guides, on-line help and technical manuals;
  • training the users of the system.

For large projects, regular progress meetings will be held. These will review the progress of the system development as well as taking account of changes that may affect the implementation.

Maintenance & Support
You should consider post-implementation support at an early stage. Once the system is live, who will be responsible for training new users, giving help and advice to users, dealing with requests for changes to the system, investigating any error reports?

Some clients take on some or all of these responsibilities themselves. For other clients C S Consultants provides a complete service that includes being the first point of contact for users for any question, problem or request in connection with the system or its operation.

Inevitably, after a system has been running for some time there will be requests from users for changes to it, either because they have identified new functions that it would be useful for the system to perform or because of changes in, for example, legislation, that mean the system needs to operate in a different way. We offer a variety of services for user support, software maintenance and production of new releases of the software. These vary from our responding to and quoting for each new item of work, to support and maintenance contracts that guarantee response times and include an agreed amount of further development work.

Costs
A fixed price quotation can usually be given for building a system because it is being built to an agreed specification. The actual cost would only vary from the quotation if additional functions were requested during the development phase and these too would be subject to a fixed price quotation before work commenced on them.
